Don't Stick Knives In Babbies' Heads

Yesterdays remaindered link to The Perfumed Garden got me thinking about all of the bands that used to make-up the soundtrack to my (long lost) teenage life.

One band (and more specifically, one album) sprung immediately to mind – The Band of Holy Joy’s “More Tales From the City”.

The band are a post-punk, semi-acoustic outfit that produced music that I can only (and barely) classify as drug-folk pop and who wrote lyrics of such a rare poetic intensity that, 20 years later, I can still remember almost word for word.

Here lies the problem: I just can’t seem to find the “More Tales From the City” album anywhere. It’s not ever been reissued, my old Vinyl copy is nowhere to be found, Amazon don’t stock it and the iTunes store only stocks their later (and more optimistic) albums… so, to cut to the chase, if anyone out there is willing to make available a digitised copy of the album in question, I’m certainly willing to payPal them for the effort.

Heres some Band of Holy Joy extras for the willing & able: a flickr set from (suprisingly) May 2007 and an unnofficial mySpace page (check out “Grace Darling” on the player for a taste of the joy that I knew and loved)

If you’re still looking for this, come on over to the BOHJ yahoo group (holyjoy-subscribe@yahoogroups.com). I’m sure someone will be happy to copy it for you. My own copy is in storage across the Atlantic unfortunately!

@ Mike: Hi Mike, I would be eternally grateful! I did join the Yahoo group but didn’t actually post anything due to life getting in the way (a first post groveling for an album just isn’t polite anyway!).

I’ll send you an email to discuss the exchange in more detail… You’re a star.

P.S. I bought the “Societey of Imaginary Friends” stuff last night and am quite impressed!

BTW: the brand new SOIF cd is out this week(or next). it is called: ‘Sadness is A Bridge To Love’...and it is stellar. yep. the REAL Society Of Imaginary Friends debut…not the demo 4 tracker(which is possibly what you have)

you will be floored by this album, I can assure you.

A penny for your thoughts…
