All work and no play makes frequency a dull boy.
Trying to find even a nano second of spare time these days is like trying to find anything worth watching on French television – it happens rarely, if at all.
The birth of Jude, the inevitable Christmas/Newyear madness and the final, teeth-grinding few weeks of a large project at work have all combined to severely limit my time spent in front of the keyboard – which explains the gargantuan 90 day timespan between posts.
The side effect of all of this is that the architecture of the frequency decoder blog/journal, which has the latest post taking pride of place on the front page, has shown itself to be totally unsuited for infrequent posters like myself.
A more suitable approach would be to convert the entire thing to a more maintainable, relevant and stress-free (and I’m loathe to use the word) “tumbleblog”, in which I can post code snippits, links, photos, quotes and rants without having to think about post categories, sections, keywords or, for the most part, the quality of the post content (as most of it would undoubtedly be links to other peoples web-spiel).
...which brings me right back to the first point – time, or the distinct lack thereof, means the conversion won’t be achieved in the foreseeable future, which in turn means the site will still be left with stagnant posts being displayed on the front page until the conversion is complete. Oh the drama of it all.
Still, it’s only a blog, as one work collegue so relatively put it.
For those of you still reading, your probably wondering what the pink ‘elan’ graphic has to do with this post. Well, it’s a sneaky way to place a link to the elan contemporary design “microsite” I hurriedly knocked up for a friend in Ireland. Shameless self-promotion so to speak.
I usually leave all aspects of the design to others more qualified than myself and tend to concentrate on the actual site/application development (PHP, Java, Oracle etc). The elan site gave me the opportunity to actually launch Photoshop and start meddling with layers and effects – which is a rare occurrance but one I enjoyed immensely.
Luckily for me, it’s a temporary, one-page “microsite” that required a minimum of actual ‘design’ (the full website shall arrive early 2006). Luckier still, I was allowed to use a position:fixed menu even after explaining it’s non-compatibility with your friend and mine, Internet Explorer – if only all clients were as accommodating.
So, thats about it for the next 90 days. Take care and happy new year to you all.

anyway, the elan site looks a little blurry,
Spam and popups? I don’t actually understand the sentence… are you inferring that this site has spam and popups?
Also, it would be great if you told me why/where the elan site is blurry (as I could then fix the blur in question – perhaps it’s the header/menu graphics).
Thanks for calling…
P.S. I don’t want to stir the pot but your site has got pop-ups.
Hi Cody,
Good to hear from you. I’ve actually got a few more JavaScript experiments to post to the lab but you know yourself, finding time to smooth out the rough edges is nigh impossible when your car sports a “baby on board” sticker…
To put my TV time into perspective, I’ve had the entire “Six feet under” for 4 months now and have only managed to watch the first three episodes!
Rather bizarrely, “The flight of the Condor” is on French TV tonight – the original version no less, so I don’t even have to sit through annoying dubbed voice overs. Perhaps I’ll force myself to find the time to watch it.
Ahhh TIVO – bliss for the masses, unfortunately not the French masses!
Take care my man, hope all is well in the Lindley household. Hold on just a minute – You seem to have passed me the “four things” baton, I’ll go get my thinking cap on and formulate a response…Comments are currently closed for this article but feel free to email me with your input - I’d love to hear it.
