PhoneGap
PhoneGap is a development tool that allows web developers to take advantage of the core features in the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry SDK using JavaScript:
An express goal of the PhoneGap project is for the project to not exist. We believe in the web and devices should too. The web is moving off the desktop and into the pockets of people all over the world. Phones are the new window to the internet and, currently, they are second class. PhoneGap aims to move your device to a nice first class window. With a foot rest. Maybe a pillow.
I just love the first line of the summary “An express goal of the PhoneGap project is for the project to not exist”! # ~ (0) 02·01·09

Dynamic Table
No fecken way! People are actually willing to pay for a Javascript table sorting solution?
The site even says “Have you ever seen another table sort script that works with anywhere near this sort of speed?“; well, I have actually – my own tablesort solution beats the Dynamic Table script by a factor of 3 when sorting the 500 row table (0.989 seconds versus 0.328 seconds)!
There’s a sucker born every minute folks… # ~ (2) 17·12·08
Automatically detect RTL text
One of my coworkers has shown me a very nice little U.I. feature that the youTube (account) interface provides.
If you start to type Arabic text into a textarea or text input, the form element’s direction attribute automatically gets set to “rtl” (right to left), the correct direction for Arabic text. Should you type in standard Latin text, the direction gets set to “ltr” (left to right); again, the correct direction for Latin text.

LifeHacker's Best of 2008
The LifeHacker site has posted a Best of 2008 list that will pretty much keep you occupied all week, if not all month. # ~ (0) 12·12·08
DD_belatedPNG
The author of last weeks rounded corner script has also found a way to cajole Internet Explorer 6 into using 24-bit png images without using the AlphaImageLoader. This enables support for background-position and background-repeat, Javascript element.style assignments and the :hover pseudo-class. I’d buy this man a beer anytime. # ~ (2) 12·12·08
GWT, JavaScript, and the Correct Level of Abstraction
The unofficial GWT Blog has a nice write-up on GWT, JavaScript, and the Correct Level of Abstraction, which itself was a reaction to John Resig’s article on Javascript language abstractions. # ~ (0) 12·12·08
Imageless dropshadows with HTML + CSS
Hedger Wang (one of my favourite JS/CSS/HTML wranglers) has refined his Imageless dropshadows with HTML + CSS demo. It uses a base64 encoded images for those browsers that can and filter:blur() for those that can’t (i.e. Internet Explorer 6 + 7). Compatible browsers include IE6+, Firefox, Opera and Safari. # ~ (0) 09·12·08
Lunascape web browser
Yeah… there’s yet another web browser to test against. The Lunascape Web Browser has integrated the three main browser rendering engines with the ability to switch to the optimal engine automatically. Currently Windows only. # ~ (0) 08·12·08
DD_roundies
Another “rounded corner“ script has hit the Creative commons market but this one seems to have got it right – it uses native browser implementations where possible and, for IE6, a “slightly bonkers” dynamically created VML node. # ~ (0) 04·12·08
IE6 Mobile: A cross between a zombie and a Frankenbrowser
Bruce Lawson tests IE6 Mobile and quite rightly sums-up with:
[it’s] a cross between a zombie and a Frankenbrowser
